My first week back from the break was extremely productive. I have never worked that hard and my mentor allowed me to work on my project during our class time (thank god!) So at this point I only need to finish a black dress and shoot the video and hopefully I will be able make it to the 2nd round!
So, over this week I thought that I will be done with everything, but then a huge problem occurred. Since I lack documentation for the process of sewing outfits when I was back home, I cannot use them in my collection… So, 2 dresses and a jumpsuit just go to trash and I have to start all over. More than that I cant work over break but I made an agreement with my mentor that I can cut fabrics but only while skyping her. I am really behind now and I have no idea if I can finish everything at least for the second round…
Over the week I was just working on my sewing, as I can totally concentrate on it now, since my college apps and exams are behind. I stayed in school for the weekend to work and I pretty much finished my top for the red skirt. Actually about the red skirt : I lost the zipper for it or someone threw it away but anyways I need to get another one ASAP!
Over the Thanksgiving I was working on the black dress with cutout sleeves. As I did during summer I again asked help from my grandmother and she directed me with the process so the dress was almost done when I got back (except for the bottom hem). Also, I brought my moodboard with me, so I can finally include it into my process folio.
This is my last week before thanksgiving break and I managed to finish the black skirt, and also I am nearly done with the black top that goes with it (Only need to hem the bottom), so I can count that by now I have 3.5 outfits ready. Red skirt id half of the outfit because the top for is still not ready! For the break I am planning to get another dress done, so I could finish before Christmas
In 2 days it is Preliminary Approval and Nicole told me that I will not get it. I can still go first round if I work hard and manage to get with my contract. I also did not get the budget form on time, so I am not getting a refund for the money I spent. I keep working on my skirts, and I am planning to finish the black one this week and the red one at some point before the break.
Over this week I have been meeting with my mentor and discussing my progress, which is sadly not really significant. I designed more outfits that I will put into my final collection but I do not have fabrics to start the sewing or cutting process. I have to go to the city to get the materials and I could not do so, as I had my SATs
Over that week I began the sewing process of the dress from outfit 5 but I still have no idea how to put in the zipper! I also ordered new simplicity patterns from Amazon, so it would make the process of cutting the fabrics faster. Also, I got my models and informed them about my project and also asked for community service hours for their help.
So, over the Christmas break I was not allowed to work on my project, only cut the fabrics while skyping my mentor.Sadly, I could not reach her, so I had to bring everything to school and do the cutting there. Over the break the only thing I worked on was my process folio.
Over this week I was working on my sewing process. I got all my measurements and I spent the weekend working at school. I practically finished a top and I was working on remaking of the skirt. I also modeled another skirt which I am starting this week. Also my mentor told me that I have to add another outfit to my line and now I am sketching and trying to work out what I am going to create. I also created a new collage with the inspirational pictures so I could put it in my process folio.
Over the past week I have been quite productive. I have completed my historical reference and worked on documenting stuff that I have been doing in my process folio. Last week I finished a dress that I have been sewing since October 5 (the only thing left is ziplock, but I need my mentor’s help with doing that). I started another piece over the weekend- a black top. I have modeled it, cut the fabric and overlocked the edges. During that weekend I also unstitched the skirt that I made over the summer and started re-modelling the fabric in order to make another skirt out of it.
This week I was working a lot on my sketching and my process folio. During the long weekend I went to NYC to the fabric store MOOD and I bought 2 types of fabric in there for skirts that I am planning to start over this week. Also, the last week was tough because my mentor told me that one of the pieces that I made over the summer was not approved and that was really frustrating. Now I am trying to come up with an idea how to change the design because I do not want to waste the fabric. I also made a final list of the models who would wear my outfits and I took their measurements in case I need to adjust the garments for them to fit perfectly.
During the last week, I met with my mentor a couple of times and we discussed my process folio and the historical background to my project. It was a really tough topic because I did not consider it before, and now I am struggling with it. Also, I only received all the necessary equipment on Friday, so I could not sew during the week.
During the week of September 15, I met with my mentor Nicole Berberena to discuss the presentation of my product. We came up with an idea of recording the catwalk and then projecting it on the wall or on the screen. We got inspired by the Polo Ralph Lauren shown at NY fashion week 2014. That is not only a non-standart way to present a fashion show but also much more convenient, as the school does not have that much space to organize it. Also, on the weekend I bought some stuff for the sewing process like new threads and extra bobbins for the sewing machine. I also tried to order promo bags to give out during the show but I could not find the proper quality pieces or the quantity of them was too big.
