I worked with Mr.Morgan today. He helped me to fix the mesh error and we printed the 3-D model. However, duo to the huge amount of support, the shape was not perfect. So we decided to use another 3-d printer to print this.

# New friend ~~Blender

After designing all the mathematica equations and all those different 3-D models, there is a common problem, which is about the thickness of the model. Now I use blender to change the size and the thickness. However, when I first open it, I cannot find all my stl files for some reason. Then I went to Blender tutorial, which told me that I have to export stl since Blender does not support stl file anymore.

Life is always hard.

“Something goes wrong” shown on the website, so I cannot know if my shape can be printed form Model Repair Service.

So I have to wait for returning and ask Mr.Morgan the permission to use his softwares which are for fixing errors. But my final product has been designed, so I only need some print practice and then it will be done!!!

# Thanksgiving 2

First of all, I want to write a brief summary about the work that I have done. After viewing all different kind of art neckless design, I would like to make my own like one of Maison Martin Margiela, which is a famous design company.

As we can see, this design was divided by 4 different unique part. From 2010, all the fashion designs discard the complex styles and formed as a clean and special style. So my product’s form will be similar to this, which is divided by 3 separate part. Each part has its own unique trait.

I focused on Spherical Plot yesterday and today while I was learning Greek letters.

# Thanksgiving 1

Just arrived home 2 hours ago, I was searching interesting 3D plot online, when I was trying to copy the equation and put in my mathematica software, I found a problem that I have to type some Greek letters in order to finish the equation, so I went to Wolfram language Documentation to find the way to type all Greek letters.

Now I have finished two thirds of designing my final project, I just need to find the last part of my jewelry.

With all the research, I find a way to draw 3d Polyhedron

However, I do not know how it works. I find out I can make a combination of polyhedron by Mathematica.

Then I find there are two plots which are really interesting, the faces of the them are like start. I would like to print these two today.

# Generate complicated polyhedra

Now I am learning polyhedron which is made by different solid in three dimensions with flat faces, straight edges and sharp corners or vertices.

However, when I saw all these polyhedrons online, all the files are stl form. So I cannot change it from mathematica, (if I just print from the original function –> Plagiarism) Now I am trying to find the how to draw 3d polyhedrons by mathematica.

After seeing the mesh in the Makerbot, then I went to innovation for help again. Mr.Morgan told me that I can go “https://netfabb.azurewebsites.net” and upload my files, after a while, the files would be fixed magically by the website. This thing did not do well for me.

I am currently thinking about this problem right now…… ;(

# Errors!

Today there was a big mess for my senior project because I was trying to print an “error.” For 3-D printer, it works only when it can recognize the front side and the back side. However, when I was doing a counter 3-dplot. Since it does not know what to print, I only got the front side with lots of junk support. Afterwards, I talked with Mr.Morgan for help. There is an old saying in China “Problems never come alone.” Another problem came before I solve this one. I have to use Rhinoceros for importing the .stl file in order to check the shape after exporting from Mathematica. However, my computer’s version was too old that I cannot use Rhinoceros anymore. So I needed to pack up all my documents then upgrade my computer. Although I upgraded up computer, there was another problem coming up.

It is easy to see there are some veins embedding on the picture which means it is an error.

Well, I focus on creating different and special patterns 3-d plots from Mathematica.

However, I have a big problem currently about embedding 2-D plots on the 3-D plots which I have created before. If I just do the simple order “show[P1,P2]”, then it tells me that Mathematica cannot combine the graphics objects in the 3-d boxes. Afterwards, I tried to convert the 2-D plot to 3-D form, however, it does not work either.

So I will do more research about it over the weekend because embedding is the most process for my senior project.

# Study of Fashion Jewelry

I went over lots of websites about Fashion Jewelry these days.

I found out that good pieces were not the jewelries with many different and complex patterns but single major special logos on these.

This image really inspired me because this is a way for me to show all my abilities by 3 different parts. I can do 3 of my best 3-D images which hang on the necklace.

# 3-D printer

Today I went to innovation lab for getting more knowledge about 3-D printer.

I thought that 3-D printer broke a big piece of plastics in order to make the model. However, the machine metals the plastics with a high level temperature. Mr.Morgan told me lots of details about the 3-D printer such as the patterns which is not allowed to print or which dives work better.

Then I use Makerbot to check and view the model then print my base for jewelry.

In order to printer my files from mathematica, the first step is to change the form of files to “stl”. I went to discussion board for mathematica but the way they showed does not work for me. After talking with Mr.Morgan, he showed a way for changing it. I need to type [ original function + “stl.”] I also learn other convenient math language such as “!” can neglect your order for one step. Then I download Makerbot from Mr.Urban, which took me 1 more days.

# Fashion Jewelry

Haha, I am the student who really like to have my own style in every environment. So I study fashion since I was in 9th Grade. The basic concept of fashion is that a popular style or practice is distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses. So I need to ask myself a question before I start designing my Jewelry, what is the real fashion besides these abstract ideas? Who does lead the fashion trend in our society.

So I started doing research about all different jewelry models.

Except the materials, I found that almost all jewelries are designed in a symmetric way for people whether is for males or females.

This jewelry is pretty easy for a mathelet to design because we just need a triangle on a golden ratio in the rectangle. Then I need to figure out how can I make the other triangle connect with the upper one with no claws. At last, I will put parts of sin or cos graph on it.

With all these processes, I have two questions so far.

1. How can I connect different parts together in order to make a perfect jewelry?

2. If I want to put special 2-D graph on a triangle or rectangle, how am I supposed to do it?

# New base For the Jewelry

After reviewing the fashion articles, I believe that my first step is to make a base for my jewelry. Then I start trying to graph spherical base, revolution base. I failed so many times this time because of function type(wolfram Language).

Then I started searching online in order to get a great 3D-plot as my base.

However, those bases are not exactly what I want. They are too complex for a jewelry’s base. At the certain time, I remember that my old teacher mentioned the Mobius strip.

Movbius strip is a surface with only one side and only one boundary component. It can be realized as a ruled surface. I believed this will be great if I can connect a Mobius Strip with my Main part of jewelry.

I will start using 3-D printer since next week.

# Using Mathematica for solving Calculus problems

# Introduction of Mathematica

The first step of doing my senior project is through mathematica.

The amazing and special trait of this software is the language. I need to learn all new program orders in order to type any function.

I watched the online video about the Wolfram language.
