Senior project Process (Jan-May)

The pyramid can’t be built with parallelograms due to the weight-bearing problem. The pyramid needs a inside structure to hold up itself.

So I decided use fiberglass to make blocks and build them up.

first is to cut the large fiberglass into small pieces. This step is really easy to make mistakes. and one single mistake may cause all pieces shaped into wrong size. I draw lines on the large fiberglass and put it on the electric saw, the thickness of saw blade makes errors in the shaping. then I need to recalculate.IMG_0959

The second step is to make the pieces into blocks. Glue is a very important factor, I chose a fiberglass glue in the first place. Turns out this kind of glue dry very slow, usually takes more than 24 hours. I leave it dry over night, yet unfortunately people walking around and it  can’t be stable in the situation. Another problem is that this glue becomes very rough on the edges when it dry, which forced me to chose other glue.IMG_1039IMG_1086 IMG_1091 IMG_1096 IMG_1212 IMG_1213

The liquid glue in the little bottle on the right side of the picture is the glue I chose secondly. this one dry quickly and won’t leave any dirty marks on the fiberglass. it is my final choice. IMG_1214 IMG_1215 IMG_1218 There are more than 40 blocks have been made to build glass pyramid. During this process, there are many breaks because of the fist glue, I have to recover them all.IMG_1220
